Here Be 70th Birthday Greetings in Limerick Form
Here at the pub, Kathleen is pleased to roll out the barrel on the long-awaited 70th birthday and the years that follow it. The inventory was slow in coming because the extra syllable in the word "seventy" (compared to twenty, thirty, forty, etcetera) caused a certain ennui in our public house bard. She has gotten over it at long last. Please feel free to turn seventy-whatever at this juncture. Limericks for the 70th Birthday through the 79th Seventy On this day you have earned seven-oh So the rest of us wanted to know For a person so set On goals not as yet Arrived at, now where do you go? Seventy-one
On the day you turn seventy-one It's time to switch gears and have fun For the journey that counts Is the one that amounts To the NEW satisfactions to come. Seventy-two Today you turn seventy-two Happy Birthday to you, it's your due And let's sing "Auld Lang Syne" To remember the prime Of your youth and the times that you knew. Seventy-three Add seven and three you get ten And ten times the laughs you get when We meet at the pub Hoist a pint, eat some grub And celebrate all you are then. Seventy-three with a Friend (alternative) Add seven and three you get ten And ten times the laughs you get when We meet at the pub Hoist a pint, eat some grub And celebrate you, our dear friend. Note: this works if you are the sort of person who does not emphasize the final "d" in the word "friend." Seventy-four
No doubt you've heard this one before Just be glad you are seventy-four And don't even give The alternative The chance to get in through the door. Seventy-five Seventy-five is the year That's a watershed, put it in gear Get your butt to the gym. Fix your attitude. Trim Your waistline. There are no wimps here.
70th Birthday? You say you're not retired yet?!
Seventy-six to Timbucktu
At seventy-six you could do All the travel put off for when you Had the freedom, the time The grown children, the dime To get out there and find Timbucktu. Seventy-six Pack Your Bags (alternative)
At seventy-six you could do All the travel put off for when you Had the freedom, the time The grown children, the dime. Pack your bags, bid the kids adieu. Seventy-seven You're seventy-seven today? Wow, that's great! So then, what do you say? Let's go cut a rug Come on, give me a hug Let us celebrate life while we may. Seventy-eight and Ambulating Today you are seventy-eight? An achievement, no doubt you think straight. We are certain the smile That is always your style Is the reason you yet ambulate. Seventy-eight and Percolating (alternative)
Today you are seventy-eight? An achievement, no doubt you think straight. Seek the day's rising tide Take the bad things in stride And your "groove thing" will still percolate.
