Hi, I'm Jeannette Ramirez, your host at Here Be Limerick Poems. This is my oldest website (August of 2007) and has a special place in my heart. I hope that feeling comes through to you, the visitor.
I love being a writer-webmaster, but early on, I thought it would be too technical. A number of beginner's tools helped me learn gradually, and at this point, I could probably build a page in my sleep - some mornings, maybe I do. :)
I didn't have a chance to go to college until later in life, but squeezed it in between family responsibilities eventually earning a BA, BS and more recently, an MA in 2005. I teach sometimes, but most days, I write, because that's what I love to do.
I've been married (forever) and hubby and I have five grown-up children - and as such things go - those children collectively have ten. By the time they were launched (and all have professional degrees), I had pretty much missed "the corporate boat" but had a ton of life experiences that would take me in a more satisfying direction - writing.
Becoming a writer wasn't part of the original game plan, but there I am, included in the University of Pennsylvania's Celebration of Women Writers, just a stone's throw from Ayn Rand!
Having my own websites allows me to bypass those huge, impersonal, and mostly inacessible publishing houses on the coasts and bring my writing directly to the public - over 2000 guests visit most days (data, Winter 2011). Now that's a lot of validation for a writer!
What's more, I'm paid for my writing because my visitor traffic brings me advertisers and affiliates. Affiliate programs are those chosen by me for products and services I trust and feel comfortable recommending to you. More information on having a website here and one for a children's book here (children's book).
My other sites match other interests: cooking, romance, and a site I maintain for The Monday Morning Writers Group - a group I started in 2003 and which has served nearly a hundred local writers since then.
I also write books and you'll find two of those on Amazon - three if you count one done in collaboration with fifteen writing friends. Here's the list:
Alphabet Trip to the Limerick ZooI started out with limericks only, but branched off into quatrains, twitpoems and even the odd sonnet to convey differing themes and moods. I write most of the poetry on this website myself, but really love offering guests' poems, too. Most of my poetry is light-hearted.
Light-hearted or not, I take rhyme, meter, rhythm, and scansion seriously and do my utmost to honor my craft. I love the challenge of working within the strict discipline of established poetic structures so you will only rarely find that I have ventured into free verse. If rhyming was good enough for Dante, it's good enough for me.
You may have heard of TQM? Total Quality Management is a philosophy of continuous improvement. I embrace that philosophy for my websites and my books. This year, those of you who subscribe to my RSS feed probably noticed a major overhaul of the look and feel of the site as I took the training wheels off and began tweaking my own CSS (so exciting!).
Okay, exciting to me, anyway.
Thanks for visiting, and come back often because I add new material all the time. I welcome interaction from visitors - human beings are lot more fun than traffic statistics.
My verses are free to all for non-commercial use, and if have made you, a family member, or a friend smile, I'd really love to hear about it.
And yes, there is wee bit of the Irish in me and my alter-egos, Molly and Kathleen.
