Fire in My Home Office

New Year's Eve Home Office Fire

Had a fire - one room - not full blown.
My computer? Dead-smack center zone.
But, of course, I was wise
- Used external hard drives -
Want to guess where I placed the darn clone?
All my files, soggy wet, in a heap
Were discolored from smoke, soot, and heat
All this gave me the urge
To clean, thin, and purge
And what's left now is tidy and neat.

Water, you know it will seek
A low point (*just note how the creek
Will, for gravity's sake
Beat a path to a lake
When it started up there near a peak)
.
So this water the firemen sprayed
Decided to flow with the grade
Through the ceilings to go
To the rooms down below
Where it puddled so deep you could wade
.
In the kitchen, we had this wood floor
And the planks buckled up. Furthermore,
The adjacent garage
Got its own due lavage
- add repainting all walls as a chore.
I was flummoxed, depressed, paralyzed
When I saw all the stuff that I prized
In a melted, wet pile.
So my Muse, for a while,
Took a break with disgust undisguised.

New Year's Eve - Under the Desk

That first night, all I did was to grieve.
No utilities worked to achieve
A small measure of cheer
Home was cold, dark, austere -
So that's how we spent New Year's Eve.
Though I'm just getting back to my stride
I am so far behind, I'm cross-eyed.
Am I going berserk
Catching up with my work?
And all this from a drive that was fried.

It takes a long time to get back from a fire in the home office. Everything is chaos for a time. The picture is the actual room where most of the damage was done. Eventually, I might put up the "after" picture but I'm waiting for some bookcases. Don't hold your breath, though, Dear Reader, things are still moving like molasses around these parts.

After the fire limericks, do you need something funny.?
