Our Military in Iraq
Write to Soldiers in Iraq

This page is dedicated to our military in Iraq, so today at the pub we are a tad more serious than usual. It is difficult to find humor in war.

Nevertheless, we do have something to say about this theme, for when do we not?

We are proud at Molly's Pub of those who serve our country abroad. One of ours, a brother who served as a military chaplain (Army), honored in the press for his devotion to his troops, has just returned from two tours in Iraq, both extended. We are most grateful for his safe return.

A second is husband (Navy) to our daughter, and father to our most beautiful granddaughter, and no doubt above average as our role model, Garrison Keillor, might say.

A third is our nephew, Troy, who is still in harm's way. We urge you to write to soldiers in Iraq...

...your own if you have one, or borrow one from someone you know. Sadly, you need not worry about seeking out that sixth "degree of separation," for they are plentiful.

For those who are still in harm's way, no matter what branch of the military, our thoughts are with them.

Will the war wind down soon? Do we dare
Neglect the young folks over there?
An email or two
Or a package from you
Means so much. Wrap it up. Mark it "Care."

By the by, Garrison Keillor writes limericks! He writes them for friends and for strangers, no doubt autographed. Surely they are then framed and given a place of utmost honor. Molly has a space [ ] that would be perfect! There happens to be some military roasting friends, right this way...

It will be a while 'til they come back
From dodging a bomb or some flak
It helps them to know
That you think of them, so
Send your prayers to our kids in Iraq.

Don't forget those care packages. Wrack
Your brain for the right things to pack,
For chocolates might melt
But your efforts, heartfelt
Mean a lot to our kids in Iraq.
Troy, stay healthy, stay cool and above all, stay safe, we love you!
