There was a time in my friends' fancy
I was always involved in pregnancy
And they'd say "Sakes alive,
You're Queen Bee to a hive
And your brood means "a real life" is chancy.
My hubby's friend called me a rabbit
With bunny production a habit
Now this guy sits alone
While our kids, with their own
Come on Sundays to where we cohabit.
To choose reproductivity
After long stints at University
Is not what I did
Not much more than a kid
Playing Mommy was just fun for me.
Now today, Moms make formal playdates
And I guess, then, if that's what it takes
To talk with a child
I'm on board, in fact, wild
That they gather with associates.
Now today they do "Mommy and Me"
For instructions on play with baby
What for me was no chore
Just a girl on the floor
Being silly with her progeny.
All my daughters by birth or by marri[t]ageWith apologies for mangling the king's english
Continuously fear the miscarri[t]age
Of theories of psyche
Which might render spiky
The scion that's bearing the heritage.
