Sweet Child of Mine Ages 6 through 10

"Sweet child of mine, you are making me crazy," one parent was overheard to say. Kathleen is methodically recording these nuggets as she works her way through the various stages of child development. Today is ages six through ten. The frivolity continues in the Family Room of the pub, and we cannot see any reason you should not share in the fun.

Happy Sixth Birthday

Now you're six, and beginning to read
Every sign zipping by at high speed
Since you read every sign
Please read this one of mine
It's beginning to make my brain bleed.

Seventh Birthday

Since you're seven, I fear to complain
For the quietude in this domain
But that look in your eyes
Shows that you're mesmerized
By the TV that's stunting your brain.

Eighth Birthday

Now you're eight, and you're helping with chores
A milestone a parent adores
But when you wash a dish
Mom and I only wish
You'd avoid making lakes of the floors.

Ninth Birthday

Now you're nine, and you're getting a clue
Of all you're expected to do
But if you would be wise
When adults criticize
Don't assume something's whacky in you.

Tenth Birthday

Now you're ten, and I'll give you a tip
There's a bud here that I'd like to nip
It's good you've a friend
But I'd recommend
You and her aren't attached at the hip.
