Tips for New Dads

Here at Molly's Virtual Pub, we are issuing tips for New Dads with Father's Day poetry, of course, as is our wont.

Finding humor in the situation of new parents is not hard to do. The overwhelming responsibility for a brand new, out-of-the-box life is at once terrifying and funny. What with college funding, food and shelter for about 21 years, 24/7 caretaking, and the sleep deprivation that goes with the job training, we hope to "lighten up" the mood with these tips for New Dads with some Father's Day poetry.

You may have noticed that there are a lot of people on the planet, nearly all of whom have survived new parents, so we offer these lighthearted observations as limerick poems dedicated to the New Father:

First Father's Day

See how simple an infant's needs are?
Just some milk, a quick change - you're a star!
All these puzzles you've solved
All her problems - resolved
But just wait till she bangs up your car.

New Dad

How many miles would you go
To surround her with joy? Even so -
Relax, you'll do fine
When her stars don't align
And don't worry Dad, she'll let you know.

Learn to Swim

Does the three o'clock wail get you down?
Like a square peg that's forced to be round?
You feel oceans of dread?
Well, it's like they all said,
Learn to swim, or you surely will drown.

Rising to the Occasion

Your new baby is tiny, that's true.
But when your little one looks at you
With that trust in his eyes
There's no doubt you will rise
To the role with the care that he's due.

Ten Fingers, Ten Toes

Ten fingers, ten toes, two huge eyes
One new father who jumps to his cries
But take heart, and don't fear
For with each passing year
Ever new complications will rise.

New Role

So then, this is your very first year
In assuming a role drenched in fear.
You're a Dad, even so.
All the rest of us know
That you'll seriously pull it off, dear.
